The MBZ Series (Magnetic Brake Zero Cogging)

One of the characteristics of hysteresis brakes is that when they are brought to a complete stop with the current applied to the coil, the drag ring remains magnetized even when no current is applied to the coil. This produces what is often referred to as cogging. This cogging can be detected as a pulsating torque, which may be as high as 25% of the maximum applied torque. The MBZ series brakes automatically eliminate this cogging (without having to rotate the drag ring of the brake) whenever the brake current is brought to zero. After de-cogging, the maximum remnant magnetic cogging force is less than 1% of the maximum output torque of the brake. The MBZ series brakes, in addition to the de-cogging feature, have all the features of the MBL series brakes.
